On 8 October 1987, a PLA S-70C-2 (C/N 70831) crashed in Qing Hai Province. The aircraft was on its way back to Xining from Golmud where it had been on location for the filming for the documentary "Light of Qaidam" when the crew lost control of the aircraft after experiencing a Tail Rotor failure. After impacting the ground, the aircraft apparently broke into three pieces.
