On 5 December 2019, a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter belonging to the Minnesota National Guard crashed during a routine maintenance test flight near St. Cloud Municipal Airport. The Minnesota National Guard lost contact with the helicopter at 2:05 p.m. after the pilot made a mayday call shortly after takeoff. The wreckage was found tangled in trees on a farm in Kimball, Minnesota, about 20 miles southwest of St. Cloud. The Minnesota National Guard located the downed aircraft southwest of St. Cloud at 4:15 p.m. The investigation determined several contributing factors, including an incorrect installation of the Hydromechanical Unit (HMU) on the #1 engine, improper inspection procedures, and pilot errors in responding to the engine failure and executing an autorotative descent.
