May 1984 84-23953 UH-60A Flag U.S. Army

In May 1984 the Aircraft was accepted into the Army Inventory.

Between 21 May and 03 June 1987 this Aircraft was used for Hellfire testing by the U.S. Army Aviation Engineering Flight Activity. The test was conducted at the Sikorsky Flight Test Facility in West Palm Beach, Florida. Tests were conducted to determine the handling qualities and performance of the UH-60A in the 16 HELLFIRE (4 HMMS) missile system configuration at an average mission gross weight of 17,000 pounds. The HMMS or HELLFIRE Modular Missile System consists of four AGM-114A HELLFIRE missiles and a launcher assembly which mounts on the UH-60A ESSS pylons. The ESSS can accommodate up to four HMMS (two on each side) for a total of 16 HELLFIRE missiles.

From November 1993 to October 1995 the Aircraft, now modified to an "L" model standard, was used in a joint Sikorsky/Army flight test program to test new wide-chord rotor blades. The primary goal was to measure and analyze the overall performance, especially at high gross weights and speeds, to compare the new blades with the standard ones.
