On 08 September 1987 this aircraft was destroyed when a mechanic tried to take off in it without permission. An Army spokesman said the soldier was in stable condition with burns after the helicopter crashed Tuesday on the runway at Camp Humphreys, about 40 miles south of Seoul. He would not identify the soldier. Army authorities were investigating why the soldier, who is not a pilot, attempted to take the helicopter, the spokesman said. The helicopter exploded upon impact and burned.
