On 12 March 2002 the Aircraft crashed in Mediterranean Sea during a routine training flight. The helicopter was operating from the destroyer USS Hayler (DD-997). The Hayler lost radar contact and communications with the helicopter while operating approximately 80 nautical miles west of Greece. The Navy was able to recover 2 crew members who were deceased, the 3rd crew member was never found.
On 31 July 2002 Phoenix International Inc. announced the successful completion of a mission to locate and recover the aircraft and on 27 January 2003 the Aircraft was Struck-off Charge. |
