On 30 June 1989 this aircraft crashed at the entrance to San Diego Bay shortly after taking off from North Island Naval Air Station. The Aircraft appeared to develop a mechanical malfunction upon takeoff and slammed into shallow water just off Point Loma at 4:25 p.m., a Navy spokesman said.
