On 4 February 1984 made its first Flight. This aircraft was the Prototype for the HH-60D Program which was to be completed in two (2) phases. The first phase included flight testing at Edwards AFB, California with the Sikorsky installed equipment which included: External Mounted Rescue Hoist, Internal and External Auxiliary Fuel Tanks, and Air-to-Air refueling Probe. During this phase of testing the aircraft was in an HH-60A configuration and the goal was to evaluate the flying performance and handling characteristics of the basic airframe. |

In 1984 after testing was completed, the Aircraft was sent to the Federal Systems Division of IBM in Owego, New York for the Mission-Related Equipment to be installed which included the Avionics Packages, FLIR, Glass Cockpit, Terrain Following/Terrain Avoidance (TF/TA) Radar. |

On 27 September 1985 the Aircraft was back at Edwards AFB with the second phase modifications completed.
