Originally constructed as an SH-60B this aircraft along with 162977 was selected as the prototype for conversion to SH-60R (later redesignated MH-60R). The conversion was undertaken by Lockheed Martin Systems Integration at Owego, New York, where the first aircraft was rolled out on 5 August 1999. The first flight was scheduled for October 1999, following electronic systems functional test and checkout on the ground, but delayed until 11 December. The first prototype was configured with a half analogue/half 'glass' cockpit for initial testing, with a full 'glass cockpit' installed after about three months. In May 2000, after initial trials at Owego, the first prototype was delivered to Patuxent River, Maryland, for the start of a two-year Navy/contractor developmental test program. |
