After testing the Aircraft was sent to Japan and accepted into the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) Inventory where it would be fitted with Japanese avionics systems and tested by the JMSDF. The aircraft would be given an Acquisition Number of 8201 and be serial # 1001. The first Flight of 8201 was on 31 August 1987. |

On 8 May 1992 during a test flight, the aircraft fell from about 5 meters above the ground and overturned due to engine malfunction during landing at Atsugi Air Base, Japan. The aircraft was wrecked, and five crew members were seriously injured.
It appears the Aircraft was repaired as there are photos on the web from 2004 of the aircraft flying. |
