The aircraft was manufactured in Owego, New York in September 1983 and on 24 May 1984 the Aircraft was accepted into the Navy Inventory. Following acceptance, the aircraft was transferred to the Seahawks of Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light FOUR ONE (HSL-41), located aboard Naval Air Station North Island, Coronado, California.

Nicknamed EasyRider 52 spent most of its service life with HSL-41, providing initial and refresher training to pilots and aircrew bound for operational fleet squadrons. Following the transition of HSL-41 to the newer MH-60R, EasyRider 52 was transferred in 2008 to HSL-37, located on board Marine Corps Air Station Kaneohe Bay, Kaneohe, Hawaii. EasyRider 52’s last flight was in March of 2009, culminating in 25 years of service, 10,399 flight hours, and 43,870 landings.

EasyRider 52 was struck from the aircraft inventory on January 25, 2010, and received a commemorative EasyRider paint scheme. On December 13, 2010, EasyRider 52 was placed at the front gate of Marine Corps Base Hawaii for permanent display. The aircraft is on loan from the National Naval Aviation Museum.
