On 27 September 1983 the aircraft was involved in a wire strike. The crew inadvertently allowed the aircraft to drift right while at a 35-foot hover. The Main Rotor Blades severed a high-tension line which snapped back striking the Tail Rotor. This resulted in a loss of directional control. The aircraft then spun to the right severing the two remaining lines before it impacted the ground after rebounding 3 times. The aircraft came to rest on its left side.
On 30 May 1984 the Aircraft was rebuilt by Sikorsky at the Messerschmitt-Bolkow-Blohm Facility in Speyer, Germany. |
