In 1989 this Aircraft was accepted into the Air Force Inventory, modified to current MH-60G specifications, and assigned to 55th Special Operations Squadron (55th SOS) at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida.

On 25 February 1993 the 55th Special Operations Squadron moved to Hurlburt Field, Florida.

In March 1999 the aircraft was deployed to Brindisi, Italy, as part of the joint special operations task force supporting combat operations during Operation Allied Force. On the night of 27 March 1999, a US Air Force F-117 stealth fighter, Vega 31, was shot down by Serbian air defenses near Belgrade. The rescue task force consisted of two MH-53 Pave Lows and Pave Hawk 26009, launched from the forward staging base to the survivor’s location. Overcoming communication issues, forecasted inclement weather, and rescue signal malfunctions, the crew of 26009 successfully recovered the pilot of Vega 31 and returned him to friendly forces.

In 2005 the Aircraft was located with the 66th Rescue Squadron (66th RQS) at Nellis AFB, Nevada.

In May 2021 the aircraft was flown to Hurlburt Field, Florida where it was preserved and placed on display at the Hurlburt Field Memorial Air Park in honor of the 55th Special Operations Squadron.
