On 14 April 1994 two U.S. Army UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters (87-26000, 88-26060) from the 6-159th Aviation Regiment departed on a mission as part of Operation Provide Comfort in Northern Iraq. Both Black Hawks were shot down in a friendly fire incident involving two F-15C Fighters from the U.S. Air Force. According to reports the F-15s were enforcing the no-fly zone and misidentified the Aircraft as Iraqi Hinds. All 26 personnel on board the Black Hawks died.
