U.S. Army |
In December 1982 the aircraft was accepted into the Army Inventory and assigned to the ERADCOM Flight Activity at NAS Lakehurst, New Jersey. Aircraft has spent time at the US Army Electronic Proving Grounds in Fort Huachuca, Arizona, and the U.S. Army Aircraft Development Test Activity (USAADTA) at Fort Rucker Alabama. Originally built as a UH-60A, this aircraft was converted as the only YEH-60B. It was designed to meet the Army's Stand-Off Target Acquisition System (SOTAS) requirement. The position of the radar antenna required the installation of long extendable telescopic main landing gear legs to provide ground clearance during landing and ground maneuvering. As of 2022, the aircraft was still at NAS Lakehurst, New Jersey but the landing gear has since been fixed in place and is being used for other purposes. |
